Superstar 3900EL / Tuning

Some months ago I bought a selection of radios from Konektor5000 in Poland from the tuning range. Anytone Smart, President Andy AM/FM and this radio the CRT Superstar 3900EL. Over the months I’ve compared it to other radios in the export class of “old school” radios and with its tuning it is dead silent on receive, dynamite audio and if you can hear it you can work it.

I like the display, controls, facia. Yes it’s a Ranger EPT360015c chassis inside and it’s working excellent. The tuning consisted of Murata for AM, receive, modulation, power is set 30w but I dropped it to 20w for amp use in the car. Counter sadly does not work, some issue it just doesn’t operate but it is a lovely quiet receive.

Reminds me of the Rob Parsons prepared 3900 for Radiozing. They were like his one in a class of there own. It’s a pity CRT stopped them. Yes old school but when it works well it really does. And the tuning of this by Konektor5000 really is working exceptionally well. And I guess we all liked the Cobra 148GTL-DX and this brings us memories too. This was from the selection of used radios they have on the website, so take a look too. Shipping is via DPD so all ok and simple.s

  1. How is it for frequency stability? The later 3900’s which used the same board as well as the earlier EPT360014B/C could be woeful on SSB.
