How To Get Your Magnum1 Into The EU

So I’ve some good and some bad news for those who’ve asked me how to get a nice shiny new Magnum1 in Europe. I’ve asked and thanks to Erik from RFLimited I can now tell you that if you contact GIJoes they accept MasterCard, Visa, PayPal and can send you a nice shiny radio across. Of course you’ll need to pay import costs as from non EU but you want it you can get it. That’s the sad news…

This retailer is well known for there commitment to customer care so it should be a painless experience with them and they’ll keep you updated with the latest news on your radio. And of course the link:

This takes you directly to the 10m radio section

  1. You didn’t need to contact RFlimited, you could just use the link I gave on Feb 10th. This one takes you straight to the Magnum 1.

EU buyers, don’t forget, you will be liable for 20% VAT (UK rate, other countries differ) and as for Duty, I know Amateur radio gear is Duty free, but I’m not sure where 11m equipment lies, because I have never imported any in, outside of the EU.

I know it’s a 10m radio, so could be classed as Amateur radio kit, but that is only if the seller knows the right customs codes to put on the paperwork. You can claim Duty back that has wrongly been charged, but that would be up to you to get from HMRC.

But, whichever, VAT will be applicable. I can’t see much change out of £300 once shipping and VAT have been added. Is this a £300 rig? Surely people must be starting to see the light, when they can have a Yaesu FT-450D, for £500 new, 1,8MHz to 54MHz, 100W out the back, built in ATU, DSP, notch filter, DNR and shift, mic equaliser. Best of all, Yaesu (UK) exist and take calls from the general public (i.e. customers). And although Amateur stuff is starting to be part made in China, the 450 is Japanese built.

And, for people who haven’t used Amateur radio equipment on the ham bands. You don’t use the clarifier, everybody (apart from those using 35 year old antique valve radios) is spot on frequency.
