Ideas, Thoughts, Crazy, Sensible, CB Radio

CB Radio is something different to everybody. For some it’s just FM, others it’s AM and for some others it’s always SSB and nothing else. So I’ve been thinking what is the next generation. What could the hobby offer into the future and need your ideas and thoughts too.

Whether sent here direct or indeed via contact. Its just a survey I guess of what the hobby needs and guess what could be? It’ll develop in time and during the next months I guess but this is part 1 of the process.
What I think?

Something like the Apollo II with multi norm and SSB. End user price around €130-€180 with option of detachable front so can hide away the radio. 12-15w power and all the usual features of the current Apollo II.

CB Radios have Mike gain and RF gain. So why not have bass and treble for transmit and talkback on EU radios. That can stop the arguments of too much bass, dull sound. You could on other hand have in the menu like Yaesu some ideas of EQ settings

External Signal Meter sockets to return on radios with bar graph displays and for those with no signal meters add the socket so a meter can be attached

Cordless Mike that as well as volume can make channel up and down function too

Stryker adds EU norms to 447HPC2. Smart as can sell pan EU if CE and ROHS.

More USA centric stuff to be sold across EU. Mikes, Radios, Antennas. As above just needs the CE approvals etc.

Make the MAXLOG 8900 / Optima III / Magnum1 more available. Both have great base ideas that need to be taken to the next level. Just needs more ideas and care on some of them

Fine / Course on all SSB Radios. We see President Grant II doesn’t have it. It’s 2016 and with increased activity to have just locked 5/0 like on President George from 1994 is out of touch. But I also know this is controversial as many are delighted with it as is due to mobile usage and how easy it is

Some makers to base new ideas on solid old based radios. Don’t invent what there isn’t need for

Better filtering and good strong SSB like on Magnum1

Uniden I’d make with SSB. Massive amount of reads and searches. Detachable fronted SSB like mentioned with the Anytone Apollo II.

I’m a realist and it’s all about price. Average investment to make biggest profit! Factories too have costing troubles as component prices go up, but the resellers still want cheaper prices. Remember this when you write your list of wants.

So come on! What do you think is needed?

Nobody can for see the radio future. It’s a dream, smoke, mirrors. I’m in the hobby now 38 years and it’s still a puzzle like on Day1 what will work best with what. I remember this sentence “You’ll only get back what you invest in” when I thought a JWR (John Wolf Racing) CB was for me. 5 radios in 5 days returned and headed to the returns bin. Added a hard to get £10 for an LCL 2740 and it worked like a dream.

SSB Multi Norm with Detachable Head

Quality Made, nice options, fair price

That’s what I think is needed. Not big clunky radios, people want smaller, people want more functions, more options but still want it to be fair priced and that’s where the makers, the resellers and the users will have different opinions.
