Today marks seven years since one of the most recognizable stations passed away. Johan “Papa X-ray” was king of the UK40 when sporadic-e conditions were on between the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Sitting either channels 32, 36 or 38 you’d hear his “Calling the UK, Papa X-Ray Holland is by” For most of the 80-90s you’d hear him on air. Speaking to young, old no matter it was the joy of the contact and the passion this man had for radio was infectious. When CB was legalised in 1981 we believed as told was for local communications and till today how wrong they were. Years later we would meet again while I was on an I.O.T.A activation. We stayed in touch after this via many letters. Johan your voice was a true part of 11m. It’s a worse place since you’ve left us.
