*NEW* Midland G13 PRO

Based on the design of the Midland G13 comes the all new Midland G13 PRO. Heavy in the hand this 500mw fixed antenna 16 channel analogue radio comes with some pretty good features inside its ergonomic frame. And again it’s a Midland with waste free packaging and for sure packaging that’s going to save also some dealers space.

Menu System

Let’s start with the menu which includes options such as dual watch to keep an ear open on two channels at once. Squelch which I guess is self explanatory. We’ve got the sub tone menu which covers CTCSS, DCS N and DCS I. Time out timer, VOX, backlight setting and scan amongst the options. It’s simple in the operation but also features all you need to get the radio set as you want it.

Signal Meter

It’s actually got a really nice touch which is the signal meter. Not numbered but layered and have to say it’s really quite a great and useful feature in my mind. Guess coming from CB we all like a meter and when swinging the radio around it’s also helpful to get an idea where a signal is coming from. For me it’s like the old saying of didn’t know how much I would need it till it’s there and yes I really did need it.

Alphanumeric & Software

You can adjust the settings via software and where it is delivered in my case with PMR 446 and 69 LPD channels written as CH-P01 and upwards for PMR and CH-L69 for LPD you can change these in the software and make it as you want it. With the software the radio can be customised almost completely so it’s well worth getting the software to make the radio exactly as you’d like it to be!

Features

69 LPD and 16 channels PMR446. Scrambler which you can activate via software PRG-10. Long life 2600 mAh battery with depending on usage around 40 hours before charge. Drop in desk charger, Kenwood plug on the side for external microphone and other accessories. And if you need it there is of course IPX4. Leaving the radio on daily let’s say 5-6 hours with an occasional call mine last 5 days before was charging time. Of course talk more and it lasts less but just flicking around the channels and listening it lasted a long time.

On Air

I loved it! At my location as always mentioned there are hotels, shops, take aways and all sorts of people on the air plus children on channel 1 and regular tourists calling and looking either for each other or for places to meet. Communication was effortless and quite ok in a built up area for well over 1-3km which when you think of city life is pretty much ok. The received also strong, turn it up and it’s not distorting. It’s really a nice radio. Really nice..
