*NEW* Stabo XM5010e VOX Look Around & Inside Story

A new kid on the block from Stabo and it’s named the Stabo XM5010e VOX. It’s a family member of the JFK III from President based on the excellently sized display and font which makes it very pleasant on the eyes. Front speaker and DIN mount for the trucking community for which 100% it is designed.

Opening It

Do not bother to open this radio as warranty seal is lost, warranty is lost and if you want to open it then you do not actually gain a lot although some interesting features are hidden. To undo all the things needed to open the radio it’s actually a real sod to do! You’ll learn a new language for sure based on all the screws and DIN stuff needed to unlock it.

Casing

Typical President heavy weight metal case with Stabo etched onto the top. You can feel by the weight and the style your running a radio straight from the house of President. It’s very much like JFK III without the fairy lights on the speaker.

This is another radio that the display is the king! No need for glasses and each item on the radio is sharp, clear, bright and can be adjusted in the menu for brightness and dim should you require it.

Of course being from the house of President AM is killer and also the FM is nice and warm with the Digimike that I use on the radio. Menu is also typically President so we don’t need to discuss it much as when you know you know. The days of dunkel audio have passed it would seem, now it’s bright and as people have wanted for a long time. This radio doesn’t disappoint with the audio it’s really nice!

Export

Don’t cut the wire and look at the board well. It’s back to the times when ā€œfull channelā€ was used on the box.

NRC

NRC is the typical and doesn’t have the ghost noises and odd things what were on some earlier radios from other makers. It seems to be part of a board on the inside of the radio so we will say it’s old school as now is more often used via a DSP chip and not a board. For me level 1 RX and off for TX seemed to be the best plus am using a Digimike and do not need to have radio TX NRC on and also Digimike NRC on as it’s an overkill. As I’ve used NRC for a long time and before its inception I can say this one is working well, congratulations to Stabo / President for slaying the beast of funny noises and oddities.

Contacts

Initial contact was Penza city some 630km south east of Moscow and I was told it was 5/9+ and clear strong audio. This is at a point of some strong solar activity so I’ll take that with a smile as worked pretty good shall we say.

There is a look at the radio from the inside and it’s no adjust board, nothing to play and or mess around with. Yes it has a GPE mode but also nothing to play with also so do not go sniffing as it’s a waste of time and nothing really to adjust in it from what I have found.

Conclusion

Expensive! Heavyweight radio perfect for the truckers and those who want a DIN mounted radio. It’s not a basic radio but it’s one that’s been thought out when being designed. Tried and loved German Stabo name under the house of President supplying the goods. It’s a dead nice radio, display is killer, audio is excellent on both AM and FM modes and it’s a radio that will run and run plus the front mounted speaker! It’s a key selling feature absolutely.

Sell It Or Keep It

It’s a resounding keep it as works really nice. As I’ve mentioned before it a well thought out radio. It’s got what its customer base will want and don’t under estimate the Stabo name on the front. This is another key selling point. We don’t see many new Stabo radios so it’s a red letter day when one comes around.
