President Grant II After A Few Calls

SAM_0107

First of all the conditions are useless here at the moment. That’s they key thing from my part of the EU at the moment. So, the radio makes around 20w SSB which is enough to power an amplifier and this is what I have done. KL200 from RM makes around 175w Bird so all ok. AM is around 7 watts and swings 10-11w and FM is 10-12w so enough. Need more get an amplifier.

Audio, Power & Insides

So far I have tested the radio on the standard mike, an RF Limited CR577 and my favourite a Sadelta and with each mike the radio has worked well. Straight from the box, wire cut, move jumper and away we go. Audio on ALL MODES is strong, clear, not bassy, not too much treble it sounds nice. Like how radios used to. If an old timer like me then you know what I mean with those words. The radio is like how it was when Japan made the radios. The inside is clean, no mess, no wires, not any big blobs of solder all over the place. Neat & tidy like what you expect from a premium brand and price. The sound is superb, I like the HI-CUT turned on as it is best for my ears, ANL works well on AM and of course AM is where President kills the competition. You can see what you have, President know what they have got here. Albrecht, Anytone, Optima killer. Will there be laughter in Balaruc you bet. They kept silent till the last minute and said here have this new Grant. BANG. Killed the opposition with one shot.
I have had so many messages about the legal SSB in UK and Poland. This radio makes it, change the band that’s it.

Worth It Or Not?

The radio is it worth the money? Damn Right. Do I like it? Damn Right. Too many companies go to China and expect a Yaesu for the price of a Dragon. I can tell the investment is in this radio. I have the Uniden 980SSB here also and the SSB on that is 50% as good as the President, why I don’t know but sure Uniden waved the magic spray on this radio.

Take a listen on the airwaves as I am sure this radio will sell like bread in a bakers. This is for sure the standard that others will be judged on. There is NO SPACE now on the market for loose knobs (oh dear) and slap dash poorly made stuff. You will see. The SSB receive for me is the key. My place is near a shopping centre and always S2-4 noise on all radios from Stryker, Intek, Albrecht AE7500 (also has no noise) and my friend came with his Icom 7410 and also no noise and flick the switch on antennas and sure the Icom heard the station the best but the AE7500 was silent and the Grant II also had enough audio to make the contact.

108LI009 Donie Isle of Lewis told “Lovely Audio Simon”
29TK070 Tom told “Sounds Nice, not too low not too high, just right”

But I need better conditions for the video and the testing really so this is based on 2 hours on a Saturday morning but the start is good and such a better experience than with some other radios.

Take a look on you tube, finally made a decent QSO and hear how it sounds. And the comments too…..

Comment to President

If there was a comment, if they ever read the blog, if they were interested it would be this. We’ve had our difficulties but am always honest maybe some cases too much. This radio will be in time a classic like the old Lincoln and George series along with the James. If defines a new way, a new future of radios. Don’t need PC programming, don’t need 18 roger bleeps it needs solid SSB/AM/FM, good construction and good audio. Out of 100% for good and 0% for bad this radio is in the top end of the %
Hmm and sure they are laughing about this radio as know it is good, that is something really sure…

  1. Hi Simon ,

I just discovered your excellent web site when looking for news about the lasts president radios.
I left the CB world 10 years ago and talking about to come back with one of this news mobile radio. I’m waiting on the new lincoln since a few months ( I had several in the past ), but after read your comments I think the grant II should be a very good choice too.
I will follow your article and recommand you.
Many thanks for what you do !

    • Hi David

Your very kind. Thank you for your comments. Lincoln II will be here when it’s released. Hopefully in next weeks.

Grant II is CB compared to Lincoln II being amateur radio but it works really well indeed. Many readers here I know now have them on the air (Grant II)

If need anything drop me a line. I’ll always reply, maybe sometimes with delay but will reply.

      Greetings from Budapest

      Simon

  2. Hi Wizard.

Is the motherboard similar as the motherboard in PJII ? Or is this a completely new radio ? I have ordered 2 Grant II here in Norway.

    • I’d say different. Lots of components in different places, tidy, very clean workmanship and seems to be working very well indeed. They seem in short supply so well done on ordering two 🙂

  3. Hi Simon, Just wanted to know will the Grant II fit in a single din space?
