With my thanks to Dave @cubwolf for taking the time and making a recording to add to you tube. There is many people who talk about the Grant II and how it does not work for them, and here we can see a recording on how it works for me and it is quite ok. YES it suffers the same white noise as the Lincoln II but take a listen to the video and it sounds fine to me.
Radio was the Original Grant II V1 and was with the RF Limited CR577 mike, 25-30w and the antenna was the President Himalaya antenna against the fence post.
I own neither Simon. A few Cbers local to me use mk1 Grant IIs and are happy with them both with & without amps. They mainly operate from atop a local hill so as you mention of your car, white noise isn’t an issue up there.
I agree. On the hills best these days as away from all the junk and noises. Too much noise from all sorts of sources these days
Ah ok & thanks for the reply. I’ve got Delboy on my YouTube feed – his recording of what I think is the same QSO sounds ok on his Lincoln >>> http://youtu.be/oeCx-94mc8w Not as clear as Cubwolfs though & a couple of S points down.
Delboy. Yep different radio and antenna he receives on so makes a lot of difference. Time, Lincoln has lazy needle compared to Cybernet. All in all many differences. How does your Grant II and Lincoln II behave? So can add your experiences on the blog
But Simon, when people say the Grant II doesn’t work for them, is it because they’re not using power as you are?
Most comments around forums are related to white noise level, audio and power. Mine has all three. Audio was made better with mike change which has volume and tone control, RM KL35 lifted power but white noise always S3 at home and S0 in the car. Each person with each radio of course has own issues. Normal power mine is 3.6w FM. Not new radio, from first series released
