So just when you thought it couldn’t happen, it has! The $59.50 Vaesu tri-band radio is now on the market and available from Hong Kong and some other internet dealers. The radio covers 136-174MHZ and 400-520MHz and comes with the all important 6.25KHz step for the PMR men. But Vaesu? Really now that’s a bit naughty I’d say.
As you see the advert says tri-band but I cannot find written anywhere anything to confirm this.

Ah… if you buy it from http://twowayradio.autoaudio.us/Quadband_VX8DR_Submersible_Vhfuhf.html it becomes a QUAD band. They claim it does 222 MHz and 50 MHz, making four bands in total. More interesting perhaps, “Optional BU-1 Blue Tooth module and FGPS-2 GPS module for APRS available! Built-In Spectrum Analyzer, supports APRS 1200/9600 bps data communication”. Believe it??? :’)
