So as many know my radio was an early one from middle France and delivery was via road from Germany. No fans available and so I went down the route of Amazon as a fan supplier. I’d lost my warranty as cut the seals for export mode so was a do or die idea with the fans. €400+ radio it will work or it will not work.
Do i need waste money on fans?
This is a high power radio and it is like the Quad 6 Pro it does get rather warm. So in the menu system of the radio when fans are fitted you can choose either F or C plus at what temperature you want the fans to start working. I chose 30c so the fans come on quite quickly and cool the radio. Think of fans as a “finals protection circuit” so you don’t strain them. I’ve since installed Noctua Austrian made silent almost fans as the Amazon found ones sounded like a jumbo jet taking off and made hearing conversations difficult.
Warranty
GOOD QUESTION! Some EU dealers told me radio only keeps warranty if (fans) installed by dealer. Others told me no warranty as seals broken for export mode! From what I see President sell the fans at €19 per piece and you need two. They are plug and play and I believe according to the photo they come with a warranty sticker. But as they are now available get them same time as the radio would be perfect plan if at all possible.
Export Mode
So I have been told by experts it’s move wire and jumper. So if you know don’t ask me. I’d say rather pay the money and get it done with the dealer. My reseller doesn’t want it on the blog and so I can’t add it now. When I see it online I’ll add it Mods II then it is known wider. Then it’s ok I guess in the meantime sorry can’t help
SHOW THE INSIDE STORY
As you know many an expert say about this radio it’s the same as the Pro. That’s why I’ve not shown it here before as if people know then no need to show it. Let them open their own radios and loose the warranty.
CONCLUSION
This is a unique President and literally the most advanced one to come from Balaruc. I don’t like to temp fait especially as a radio with no warranty and €400 plus device. So it needed fans quickly and keep them on slow so I recommend between 25-30c in the menu when fitted. The Pro with no fans is around 60-70c on SSB after a decent contact so Washington based on that needs fans asap. If you buy a used Yaesu FT-891 or another brand they’ve got 100 watts and two fans in most cases. So based on that a radio that makes 80w+ needs two fans. It simply logical.
