ā¬69.90 plus shipping for a PMR446 and DMR Level 1 radio in the same box. Selectable from analog to digital with the press of a button so changing zone 1 analog to zone 2 digital is truly nice and easy. This slice of the action will focus on the analog side of the 16 channels 500mw PMR (Personal Mobile Radio) side of things. First off we need to mention the radio is full customisable via programming software for CTCSS, DCS, tones, zones and all things to truly make the radio tick. Itās advisable of course to have the software as it makes your life easier as youāll know whatās been programmed from the factory and the changes you will like to change.
Digital Radio Channels will be here soon, weāve a DMR Tier1 ready for action now. So, digital comes here shortly. Only thing is finding a voice.
Box
The radio comes ready for action so to speak. Inside the box youāll receive radio, battery, multi lingual manual, drop in charger and USB-C cable and charging plug. Ergonomic packaging so not so much waste and plastic used. Plus USB-C connection on the bottom of the battery.
Build
Strong build, good to hold and the quotation is that the 1500MaH battery can manage a maximum of 23 hours of life. Whatās interesting is the ease of switching from analog to digital. One press of the button under the PTT and you are in digital or vice versa you are in analog (Zone 1 or Zone 2) Kenwood compatible headset socket, USB-C charging on the bottom. Itās so simple, theyāve made it very user friendly. Nicest parts itās heavy without being too heavy, the volume of received audio is very strong so sure itās designed more for outside and work locations that sat at home on the sofa.
Voice
Each time you change the channel you are greeted with the channel number and itās also loud. Maybe in the software the option will be there to turn it off. No matter itās loud I think for outside use itās just what you need for sure.
Reception
Out and about with the radio youāve got all remits of what you can hear. In the centre of town there are shoe shops, hotel staff calling taxis, restaurants and cafes make the channels buzz! Add to this also chamber maids, builders and literally one and all talking non stop during business hours. Back at the house itās a lot quieter. Received distance I guess from outside is around 2km partial countryside where as in the city I guess around the 500m due to built up area and indeed the sheer amount of traffic on the airwaves.
Oddly
What I have noticed and not sure whether itās a location thing or equipment based more so is that in Budapest channels 1-8 are bursting during the weeks and channels 9-16 are pretty much empty and at the weekends the shops are continuing there activities and the rest silent. Surely also weather plays itās part in this too and now cafe season is coming fast sure more activity will fill the 1-8 and 9-16 it will I suppose remain quieter.
Dual Mode
As mentioned this radio has two zones, zone one digital and zone two which is analog. The digital side being DMR Tier 1. In the next article Iām going to take a look at that. Amongst my digital radios here I didnāt have one to communicate with the Albrecht. This will be changed as have ordered from Amazon a radio and just need to wait and itāll be here. During a walk around the city centre of Budapest listening across the 16 DMR channels it was silent, nothing at all, silent with a capital S is what I heard both at the weekends and in the week time also. Bear with me on the digital side Iāll be back with that as soon as possible.
Price Point
Albrecht have hit a home run on many accounts. Summer is coming, holidays, school kids at home, outside work, builders and all the other users in between and the best of digital and analogue for under ā¬70. Plus full software support for the radio also to adjust all from squelch to CTCSS and from DCS to power there is an option you can play with. Tough little radio, loud received and transmit audio, good receive when in built up environment and fits easily in the pocket, not heavy, good sound via an earpiece.

Videos are coming here next. Short delay as Iāve had a sore throat but theyāll be on the way soon. ā¬69.90 for a dual mode analog and digital radio is quite a superb price. Having looked around online it appears to be one of the, if not the cheapest I could see inside of Europe. It would be so nice if more people used digital in my area of the world but Iām still looking, still scanning for a signal.
Videos will be here soon
