This time we head back to the USA and Erik at Farpoint Farms as he takes a look at the Luiton LT-310 SDR CB Radio. This radio has certainly hit the net like a storm.

There was multiple items. The major ones were the sounds of components popping followed by a reduction in receive sensitivity. Stations I had contacted told me it sounded like I was unkeying and cutting off my sentences. Then I noticed a delay in the transmit signal which was interesting. It appeared to be buffering transmit audio. There was a delay in my speech and when it actually transmitted. Not sure how that was possible.
The other bugs were/are on AM when you key the mic it doesn’t indicate any power out except when you speak. Much like SSB mode. It is sending a carrier but the display doesn’t indicate it. Is it actually utilizing Double Side Band instead of AM?
I’ve noticed on the replacement they sent me it too does the same. No carrier indicated on the display for AM. For FM it’s fine. It too popped once last night while I was using it. My SWR is fine so that’s not it. The replacement is still working so we will have to wait and see what happens.
Another thing is when the unit is connected to power but not turned on it is consuming 90 milliamps of current. If you power it on and shut it down it climbs to around 96 ma then settles down to 90 ma.
I have a question for all that has one of these radios. I’m on my second one and in both radios during transmit I occasionally hear a snap like a component failure.
Is anyone else hearing this on their radio?
I have not noticed such a sound, but will stay alert for it.
I am curious as to what happened to your first radio. Can you describe the fault that occurred?
