*NEW* PNI Escort HP40 The “Inside Story”

Interesting to see the old factory version of NRC which was board based where now it’s done via processor. The board bares some resemblance to the older Qixiang version however we don’t know which version of software controlling NRC is on the radio. And the behaviour of the NRC is really quite a difference from where it was before with ghost and fake voices. It’s now top class.

Under the bottom cover you see some of the board on the right where the nice things are hidden and on the left the NRC board amongst other things. By the way the board is formed and numbered it would indicate that the factory is Nanfone

Clearer view of the right hand side of the board from the base. This factory has changed a lot since the olden times and that’s absolutely the case. Tidier work done and the usual silver coloured components which is the usual Nanfone way of working.

Heavy Heavy metal case and an interesting design which sure helps with the heat that the radio would make at around 40 watts FM.

Bottom view of the radio. As before it’s a bruiser weighted radio

Somehow this radio behaves in a very President’esque way in its logic, transmitted audio and some of it’s features. For the price it’s a really good radio

  1. It’s always nice to see the inside of these radios and see the “evolution” of various components and to see just how small some of these SMDs can get.
