2014 we looked at the georgeous Uniden 8070s with detachable head as the radio we’d make. 2015 was updates to CRE/Qixiang. 2016 we’ve done another radio now for and it’s a fresh take on an old friend and we will show you more later in the year what we’ve thought about.
This radio let’s hope if UHF channels are legalised makes its way into Europe. Uniden, directly I ask make it for some market where we can get it. Lots like it!
Recently we’ve been asked ideas about CB radio ideas for the years ahead. Was an unexpected email from a relatively unknown place. Nice to be thought of! And maybe talks continue into the year, we will see. Radio is of course passion, connections, discussions, frank exchange of thoughts. But Passion is the key, without it sit home and do nothing.
New Radio:
Must be kept unnamed now as when you give things for free into the world then you’ve no comeback on your ideas. So I tell the outline and the rest is for the highest bidder.
Multi EU
It will be a radio that will be multi-EU norm based. It’ll work around 90-95% in legal format but when you export mode it (new way to do this) then it opens up new menu system, new previously hidden features are now available. Basis of this is that the radio will be used export mode mostly (I guess) so provide the biggest selection of features and ideas this way.
Features:
I’m a radio guy. You can expect I’ve thought well what is needed. Dave 91DD018 has proved the radio users are the best designers. Speak to a forward looking maker like GoodWill who will listen and look what comes. A radio many like now in III version, trouble is it is just in low numbers available.
38 years a user now (2016) and enough ideas to keep people busy 👍 so it’s time to speak and not complain that something is not done.

Style:
It will have SSB of course and all the usual features you expect from an SSB radio in these times. AM in UK mode as well as FM, fine and course and will be digital display like on Grants, Lincolns, Qixiangs and others. It will be where possible dual voltage and DIN sized.

What they need to do, is put some decent filters in it. My DR135UK picks up terrible PLT/EMC from next door and also the laptop. Strangely enough, my 5 year old SS3900EL was never bothered about the laptop, it made no difference on or off.
But if I switch the Yaesu on,even though 11m isn’t notched like the amateur bands, it manages to reject all interference and I can listen to far away faint stations with clarity and ease. If they’re going to ask £250 for a single band radio, then they need to start adding them, when for £500 you can buy a radio that covers 30KHz to 56MHz (transmit 160m – 6m), has these filters, has all manner of DSP, AGC, proper NB, notch filters and puts 100w out the back. Plus I can phone Yaesu (UK) up (had to this with a previous second hand radio) talk to their technical dept. (none of this, we only speak to dealers, you have to go through them) identify the problem and the part required, then if you want to pay by card, they’ll take your order then and there. It arrives directly from them the next day.
I’m already looking at my next radio, I quite like the use of a waterfall screen and will be looking to spend just over the £1,000 mark. But for that, I expect something that will work and good back up if there is a problem, with no Indian call centres.
